Recipes and preps
Selling a dish takes its ingredients off the shelf. A pot that makes 8 bowls takes an eighth per sale. Enter a prep like buttercream once and use it in many recipes.
Inventory keeps a count of what you hold, and the count goes down as you sell. It's part of your merchant dashboard, and it costs a store run by one owner nothing.
Screens on this page show example items and amounts.
Stock lists what you hold. Set a "Low at" level for an item, and it shows under Running low once it gets there. A dish that runs out of an ingredient shows sold out on your menu.

Food cost is what the ingredients behind your sales cost, as a percent of those sales. It leaves out rent, wages and other running costs. It needs the Costs and margins tool, and a delivery recorded so your stock has a price.
